So normal service was resumed as New Zealand beat Italy by 76-14. The Italians showed New Zealand too much respect in the opening 20 minutes and the Kiwis took full advantage and were out of sight. But as the game wore on the men in blue gained in confidence and took the game to the All Blacks. This did enough to slow the points haul but New Zealand were worthy winners and fully lived up to their favourites tag. Italy can hold their heads up high and now look forward to the match against Scotland which will certainly decide who will finish second in pool C unless there is to be another major upset from Romania or Portugal a huge ask.
New Zealand were even better than i expected-awesome in fact. Italy actually played well, believe it or not, certainly better than France did against Argentina or England did against USA. The difference was in the pace of the two teams-New Zealand had pace all over the park, and Italy’s defensive line was too square too often and susceptible to the kick over the top. Plus the All Blacka were quicker in their ability to spot gaps and expoit them. Having said that, Italy technically were good, their forwards drove well and their handling mistakes were on a par, or maybe even less than the All Blacks. This was not the Italy of past World Cups so for New Zealand to score 11 tries against them was a simply senstaional performance.
Did you go to the game Luigi or see it on TV? If you went to the game tell us about the Atmosphere before and after the game. I hear that it was a great place to watch fantastic atmosphere in the ground and in the bars in town.
