Auckland put on a display of controlled rugby in atrocious conditions at Eden park and won through 38-3. Eden Park looked like it was in a monsoon as Auckland playing with the wind in the first half stretched out to a 24-3 lead . Auckland as you would expect given the conditions controlled territory, but what was surprising was the lack of errors given the amount of possession they had, the first 20 minutes they set the basis of this win with a powerful forward display. The second half both sides worked hard but Hawke’s Bay could not convert pressure to points and the game remained locked at 24-3 until the last 10 minutes when Auckland broke out and scored a further 2 tries to run out winners 38-3. There is no doubt that if Auckland perform at this level next week in the final they will secure the Air New Zealand Cup.
