The first rugby club formed in Australia was the Sydney University Club in 1864. The early days are hard to establish as the Australians also formed Australian rules football and even today they fight for the best athletes. Australias first international fixture in 1899 set the trend when they defeated the touring British side 13-3 at the Sydney Cricket Ground. Today Australia play their home games at; The Telstra Stadium, Edwin Flack Avenue, Sydney Olympic Park, Sydney, NSW 2127.

Australia have a reputation for being a side that never knows when they are beaten and so often win through when least expected in the final minutes of games. The best example being the World Cup in 2003 when they took England to extra time. However on that occasion they lost to a Jonny Wilkinson drop goal. Along with New Zealand they are consistently in the top 3 world ranking.
