Game One
The Australian Schoolboys rugby league team maintained their impressive
international record with a 13 try victory in a 66-0 win over the Great Britain
Community Lions U18yrs at Canberra Stadium.
After two disallowed tries in the early stages, due to forward passes, the
Aussies clicked into gear midway through the half with lock forward, Joseph
Leilua (Endeavour Sports High) crashing over for the first try. Australian centre
Cheyse Blair (Tweed River High) scored two first-half tries and back-rower
Ryan James (Palm Beach Currumbin) also crossed the line. Hayden Hodge
(Erindale College) scored two minutes from the break and gave his team a
22-0 half-time lead.
The Australian Team combination went into overdrive after the break with
winger Faleula Finau (Matraville Sports High) 3 tries, Hodge 2, interchange
hooker Blake Austin (St Dominics Penrith) 2 and fullback Maipele Morseau
(St Brendan’s College) all scoring.
The British team tried hard but were outclassed. Best for them was their
fullback and skipper, Mark Wool (Celtic Crusaders). For the Australians,
the best player award went to lock forward Joseph Leilua.
