The Black Ferns showed just how good they are as they blew away a very good Australian team in the wind at the Surrey Sports Ground.
It was 15 minutes before the Kiwi’s got on the score sheet and then the floodgates opened. The first score came from a forwards drive and pirouette from number 2 Fiao’o Fa’amausili, next was on 22 minutes 14
Carla Hohepa took an inside pass at pace and went in under the posts, allowing Rebbeca Mahoney an easy conversion. Then on 24 and 31 minutes player of the day Justine Lavea went over to stretch the score to 22-0. The half ended with Australia ignoring chances to kick at goal but possibly ruing the decision as they failed to score even though the Ferns went down to 14 players with number 4 Vita Robinson in the bin. First half score 22-0 to New Zealand.
The second period and with the wind and an extra player the Aussies must have felt 22 points could be overcome, but it was the Kiwis who scored on 43 minutes through number 11 Victoria Grant. On 48 minutes the Wallaroos got on the score sheet as number 3 Lindsay Morgan touched down. That was as good as it got as the Kiwis closed the game out with the final try by power 13 Huriana Manuel on 64 minutes as Australia lost another player to the bin. This was the last score giving us the final score of:
Australia 5-32 New Zealand
