England wrapped up their visit to South America with a series win in Argentina. Both teams were full of new players on the International stage and with Argentina improving on last weeks display this turned out to be a very good display of control, power and pace from England. Also a great début for Marland Yarde with a brace of tries and some good assist work. Freddie Burns controlled proceedings though he did not look as assured as he had the week before. The other plus was Kyle Eastmond playing at twelve and creating things. Two penalty tries perhaps flattered England although the power of the pack could not be denied and if the referee decides to award them England will not complain.
England must still have some concern about the amount of penalties being given away though three or four were for holding on which is not perhaps as bad as falling and offside. Whatever the Pumas were able to establish a 12-6 lead before England got into their stride and led 12-25 at the break going on to win:
Argentina 26-51 England
After the game Stuart Lancaster said: “Argentina were much improved on last week and put us under pressure so it is even more pleasing to score 50 points.” “We thought there would be a reaction from Argentina.” ” Getting the series win was the first objective. The second objective was to develop our options and looking at other selections and that has been achieved.”
