This weekend saw the Finals of both the Heineken and Amlin 2012/13 European Cups in Dublin Ireland. First up on Friday night it was the Amlin.

This was played in bright sunshine in the RDS stadium and as we predicted Leinster won through. Stade Francais who had the majority of possession and territory simply could not convert pressure into points. They either got turned over at the crucial moment or made an error knocking on, forward passing or simply losing in contact. The reverse could be said of Leinster who took every chance that came their way and were in fact 14-0 up in twenty minutes two tries from two trips into Stades twenty-two. Stade did get into the game with a penalty on twenty-six minutes 14-3, but then Leinster came right back and scored their third try to go into half-time at 21-6. The second period and things tightened up, leading Leinster to consolidate with a couple of penalties 27-6. Then on sixty-five minutes Stade got over the whitewash 27-13. However it was Leinster with the final word on seventy-eight minutes to give us the final score of 34-13.

Saturday and the weather was not so kind to us at the Aviva Stadium as

ASM Clermont and Toulon slugged it out. This game saw Clermont with the bulk of possession and territory scoring as early as the third minute but then going in at half time at 3-3. The second half and it lit up on forty-one minutes with Napilioni Nalanga going tip toe down the touch line to score for Clermont the conversion was missed 8-3. Forty-five minutes and Jonny closed it to 8-6. forty-eight minutes and Clermont got their second 15-6. It was all Clermont but Toulon defence was assume and so it was a penalty to Jonny on sixty minutes closed it to 15-9 and doubts were there to see. Sixty-four minutes and Deleon Armitage went over and Jonny slotted the conversion 15-16. Clermont threw the kitchen sink but could not get the breakthrough or the clear chance at a drop goal and so it slipped away. A great day out and well deserved win to Toulon. Jonny Wilkinson was made man of the tournament and no one can argue with that.

Two great games over the weekend with differing styles lets hope Clermont and Toulon meet in the Top 14 final.

Super League XVIII Round Fifteen . A couple of surprises and yet another failure to Saints was averted as they came from sixteen points down to win and inflict a loss to Rhinos on Monday night.

Warrington Wolves were the second highest placed team to slip up, meanwhile Wakefield wildcats took a pasting from Hull KR.

Friday night and proceedings opened with Bradford Bulls travelling to Salford City Reds and winning 7-28. It was already 7-18 by the break and so yet another hard day at the office for the Reds. At the same tome Widnes Vikings put up a spirited showing against Huddersfield Giants but still came off second best 22-36. The fight back was in the second period as they had been 6-30 at the break, so maybe Giants nodded off for that period. Last on Friday night and Warrington Wolves lost to Hull FC and at home the home side were up 10-6 at the break and all going to script. However Hull did not read the instructions and put twenty points on to Warrington’s six thus winning 16-26.

There were two games on Saturday and they both went to form as first London Broncos hosted the League leaders Wigan Warriors and went down 6-64. This one was already 0-38 at the break. Catalan Dragons hosted Castleford Tigers who put up a stout resistance in the South of France but ultimately went down 39-30 having been 30-6 down at the break they fought back in the second period but could not do enough to get the win.

Just one game on each Sunday and Monday, first on Sunday it was Hull Kingston Rovers good win over Wakefield Wildcats and against our prediction. This was tight at the break at 16-18. But in the second period the home side put on twenty-eight points to nil from the visitors and so won 44-18. So to Mondays Leeds Rhinos sixteen -nil to the good, then 16-12 at the break and finally going down 22-30 to St. Helens who needed to stop the rot and did in style.

What a great round of final games and congratulations to New Zealand for winning the Cup and the Championship, with Canada giving them a fine test in the final but going down New Zealand 33-24 Canada. England got a lesson from Russia who smashed and bashed them to take third place 26-5. The Plate went to the USA in extra time having been tied at 12-12 with Spain. The home side took the Bowl running South Africa ragged in the process.

So next up will be the World Cup in Russia at the end of June and it should be interesting as quite a few teams today were giving other players a run out to firm up their squads, look out for Russia on home soil and ever improving Canada.

So two wrong calls and here are all the results:

Results Finals

29. 18 May 2013 15:36 Brazil 12-26 China 11th / 12th
30. 18 May 2013 15:58 Netherlands 32-0 South Africa Final Bowl
31. 18 May 2013 16:28 Australia 14-12 France 7th / 8th
32. 18 May 2013 16:50 Spain 12-17 United States Final Plate

We are now down to the finals and so far all has gone pretty much to form, though Canada and Spain did surprise us seeing of England in the Cup 7-12 and the USA 15-5 in the Plate Semi.

New Zealand had already taken the overall crown for the series even before they play the final and so join their male counterparts as Champions.

Two surprise results to us as London broncos saw off the challenge of Bradford Bulls and Huddersfield Giants stopped Leeds Rhinos in their tracks for the first time in several years.

Two games played out on the 10th, with first up London Broncos versus Bradford Bulls. this was 18-8 at the break and ended a convincing 25-16 so a good outing for the London side. next to Sheffield Eagles 28-12 win against Halifax, this was tight at the break at 10-2 but the home side pushed on for a good win and place in the next round. Last up and Hull FC saw off the challenge of Wakefield Wildcats 24-6. Moving on from 16-0 at the break.

Saturday the 11th and just the one match-up as Huddersfield Giants ruined Leeds rhinos record in the Cup with a convincing 24-8 final score. They were well in control at 16-4 at the break and for the uncommitted fan it was good to see the Rhinos out so early in the competition.

Four games on Sunday and first we had the Workington Town boys fighting hard but being well beaten by Widnes Vikings 0-36. This was already 0-18 at the break. So to Hull KR hosting Wigan Warriors and going down 14-46 a drubbing in any book. 4-12 at the break and all to play for turned into the rout. next to France and Catalan Dragons handed out a fierce lesson to York City Knights as they went from 46-2 at the break to the final score of 92-8. Last up and Warrington Wolves gave Salford City Reds another hard day at the office as they ran out 52-6 winners having been 24-0 to the good at half-time.

So two wrong calls out of eight, here are all the results:

Results Round Five

Catalan Dragons 92-8 York City Knights
Hull FC 24-6 Wakefield Trinity Wildcats
Workington Town 0-36 Widnes Vikings
Hull KR 14-46 Wigan Warriors
London Broncos 25-16 Bradford Bulls
Warrington Wolves 52-6 Salford City Reds
Huddersfield Giants 24-8 Leeds Rhinos
Sheffield Eagles 28-12 Halifax

left with the big boys and Sheffield Eagles to put the cause of the Championship next up. Here are the next round fixtures with our picks as usual in Bold:

Latest additions to the squad are Saracens’ hooker Schalk Brits, Fijian wing Timoci Nagusa, Wallaby lock Dean Mumm, Azzurri prop Andrea Lo Cicero and US Eagle Samu Manoa. London Wasps’ utility back Elliot Daly joins his club mate Sam Jones as an uncapped member of the squad.
Tour manager Derek Quinnell said: “We are very pleased with the final composition and strength of the squad. Obviously because of play-off finals in Ireland and England on 25 May a handful of players will not be available for the first match against England but we have covered that by inviting 28 players. We also believe there is a healthy balance between proven test experience and promising young talent who will benefit enormously from the experience.”
The Barbarians meet in London on 22 May, then fly overnight to Hong Kong straight after the match against England on 26 May before the tour highlight the fixture against the British and Irish Lions on Saturday 1 June.

The Aviva Premiership Semi Finals lived up to all the hype. Leicester Tigers put on a master-class as they blew away Harlequins the 2012/13 Champions at Welford Road in front of a full house.

In a game full of power, pace and not a little skill. Star men for the Tigers Tom Croft

with a great run to score from yet another skill full play by Matthew Tait. harlequins did compete and make a good game of it until almost half-time. So 13-9 at the break and then Tigers turned up the power in the secondperiod and score another three tries to win it 33-16. Thus booking their place at Twickenham on the 25th May with kick-off at 15:00.

The second semi was at Allianz Park Saracens strong hold where they were yet to lose. No one gave that message to Northampton Saints

who blew the home side off the park in the first 20 minutes and ran out to a half-time lead of 0-17. Sarries did come back in the second half but could not convert their pressure into points and so ended up down 13-27. This meant Northampton Saints booked their spot in the final for the first time in three attempts.

So one wrong calls this week. Here are all the results:

Results Round Semi Final

Sat 11 May 13 15:00 Leicester Tigers 33-16 Harlequins Sky
Sun 12 May 13 14:15 Saracens 13-27 Northampton Saints ESPN

So what a final is in prospect from everything that has gone before Leicesetr Tigers are massive favourites but we think Northampton Saints will raise their game once more and surprise them hanging on for the narrowest of wins.

Fixture Final
