Gloucester Shirts

Gloucester also known as the cherry and whites play their home games in strip comprising red and white shirts. For many years the club had a reputation for only having local players pull on these club colours, this changed with the advent of professional rugby. Gloucester then boasted some well known names to pull on the club strip who held international honours such as; Henry Paul, Phil Vickery, Andy Gomarsall, James Simpson-Daniel and Simon Amor the high scoring sevens player.

Gloucester Rugby Club was formed in 1873 after a meeting at the Spread Eagle Hotel. It is one of the oldest and most famous of England's rugby clubs, possibly because it's one of the few major teams not competing with a local football club. Gloucester play their home games at; Kingsholm, Kingsholm Road, Gloucester, GL1 3AX. An area of the Castle Grim Estate it bought for £4,000 in 1891. Prior to this home games were played at the Spa, past and present home of the city Cricket team. The club soon established a strong reputation, with players being selected to represent England from the turn of the century. There were regular matches against top Welsh teams, and in 1913 a new stand was opened. This was the forerunner of what we now know as "The Shed".

The Gloucester red and white shirt has lifted several trophies for example; John Player Cup 1972, 1978, 1982, 2003 Middlesex 7s 2005. TheZurich Premiership League Play-off Champions 2001/02. The European Challenge Cup 2005/06 Guinness Premiership finished 1st in 2003/4 losing to Wasps in the playoff and they are yet to drop out of the top flight of English Rugby.
