Ireland Women used the element better and edged a nervy encounter against the USA Women, which was just the tonic following their previous round loss to England 27-0.
A Joy Neville try gave Ireland the ideal start, but Jamie Burke replied with a try for USA, Mel Kanuk adding the conversion. Vanesha McGee scored a try to make it 12-5 to USA but Niamh Briggs reduced the gap to two points with a try before half time giving us 10-12.
The second period was all Ireland scores as Neville scored her second try and then Tania Rosser went over with Briggs converting to give us the final score of:
Ireland Women 22-12 US Women

Wales Women suffered a surprising reverse against South Africa in Pool A.
As with most of the games the weather controlled what happened and although Wales turned round 0-10 down they could not do enough with the wind to secure the victory. Non Evans kicked a penalty followed by a conversion for Elen Evans’ try, but it was to little to late.
South Africa struck twice in the first half, Namhla Siyolo scoring on the half-hour with Charmaine Kayser adding the second try 10 minutes later. However it was Zandile Nojoko making it 15-0 after the break that finished off Wales, leaving them too much to do. Final score:
