The Ireland national rugby league team played their first international match in March 1995 against the United States in Washington, USA winning 22-24. The team is administered by Rugby League Ireland and the majority of the eligible players ply their trade in the Super League

Since Ireland began competing in international Rugby League in 1995, they have participated in the Emerging Nations Tournament in1995, Super League World Nines in 1996, World Cup 2000, European Nations Cup since 2003 and Victory Cup 2004. Ireland also qualified for the 2008 World Cup, beating Lebanon on points difference. In March 2008 Ireland were in 9th place in the RLIF rankings.
