The Southern Kings made a winning start to life in the Super XV, scoring a crucial win against the Force, a side the newcomers are widely tipped to battle with for the wooden spoon.
The Kings wore a simplistic all-Black kit, manufactured by Puma. With no major sponsor confirmed the shirts boasted the Southern Kings logo in the centre of the torso. Their changed strip will be an all-white mirror image of the kit worn last weekend.
Playing an exciting, open brand of football it was teenage sensation Sergeal Petersen who made all the headlines, scoring a brace of tries to help his side to a 22-10 win and third place on the early-season table.
For the Kings the points could be critical as they attempt to avoid having to play a ‘promotion-relegation’ match with former Super XV side the Lions, while the Force’s season could not have got off to a worse start, with this most recent loss following on the heels of an opening-round defeat at the hands of the Rebels, another side not expected to feature at the business end of the season.
