Lebanon played their first international match in 1998, against Japan in Tokyo, Japan winning 0 - 52. The Cedars as they are nicknamed originally comprised players of Lebanese background in New South Wales, Australia. From these roots a domestic competition was formed in Lebanon, but not till 2002. The squad is still heavily reliant on the Australian contingent and although the game is developing strongly in Lebanon we expect this will be the case for some time.

The Cedars missed out on qualification for the World Cup in Australia losing to Samoa in the final repechage game following a tremendous win against Wales. They were ranked 8th in March 2008 and they also play or have played in: World Sevens: 1997, 2003, World Cup 2000, Mediterranean Cup 2002, 2003, 2004 and the Phoenician Cup 2006.
