The Llanelli Scarlets were founded in 2003, although their roots from Llanelli RFC which still exists go back to certainly 1876 and possibly 1872 they are one of the regional sides along with Cardiff Blues, Newport Dragons and the Ospreys who play in the Celtic league. They draw their very vocal support from Llanelli RFC, Carmarthen RFC, Llandovery RFC and Narberth RFC.

The Scarlets play their home games at the 10,800 capacity Stradey Park, Llanelli, Carmarthenshire SA15 4BT. They are the home team for the largest area of Wales if not the greatest number of supporters as great tracts of West Wales are sparsely populated.
