The finals night of the 2012 JP Morgan Rugby 7’s lived up to all expectations and hype. London Irish won the final 31-28 against Gloucester coming from some 18 points adrift at the break. Skipper Gray gave them a lifeline by scoring the first half 5 points and then in the second period Joseph came on and scored two as he gave a man of the day display to secure the win 33-28 and take the title.
The Group ‘A’ games saw Saracens demolish Sale 33-12 but then lose to Gloucester in a tight contest game 12-15.
Before this Gloucester who missed Freddie Burns and Johnny May managed a tight win against Sale 19-12.
The Group ‘B’ games and Irish started slowly and lost to London Welsh (Samurai) 17-29. Bath beat Welsh so the local fans expected the home side to progress with a win against Irish but in fact Irish blew them away 38-14 and with the big win secured their place in the final. London Welsh ended up above the hosts thanks to a better points difference. But the night was all about London Irish worthy winners!
