A moment of madness from the Irish number eight Jamie Heaslip who was sent off for kneeing at a ruck in the first quarter of the game, ruined any chances Ireland had of competing and New Zealand ran in nine tries as they crushed 14-man Ireland in Saturday’s Test match in New Plymouth.
Kieran Read, Ben Franks and Jimmy Cowan (2) got tries with Dan Tuohy replying for a 38-7 half-time scoreline.
The second period and Smith, Sam Whitelock (2) and Neemia Tialata added to the All Blacks’ score-line while Brian O’Driscoll, Tommy Bowe and Gordon D’Arcy scored Irish tries, whilst Dan Carter passed the 1000 point barrier.
