Newport Gwent Dragons have a new home shirt manufactured by Gilbert Rugby, for the 2012/13 season and we are pleased to reveal it here:
Newport Gwent Dragons are one of the four regional teams established in 2003 by the Welsh Rugby Union, playing in the Pro12 and finishing 9th last season. The club play their home games at Rodney Parade in Newport also the home of Newport RFC which has a share in them. The area they represent is southeast Wales which includes Blaenau, Gwent, Caerphilly, Monmouthshire, Newport and Torfaen. The Dragons also play in the Anglo/Welsh Cup, and whichever of the European Cups they qualify for.
Dragons Honours & Prediction 2012/13
Dragons opened their history in 2003/4 season with the then Celtic League and finished third winning all home games. 2004/5 even after much change finished 4th. 2005/6 finished 8th, under Paul Turner who was head coach until 2011. 2006/7, 2008/9 things continued to be tough with lowly finishes, 2009/10 things improved and the Region finished in 7th place with automatic qualification to the European Cup (Heineken). 2010/11 they finished 7th and in 2011/12 they slipped to 9th putting them in the Amlin European Cup for 2012/13.
We see them struggling as usual without big names and expect they will finish 10th in the Pro12. The Anglo welsh Cup probably the Semi-Finals and the Amlin Cup they will do well to get out of Pool 3 where they meet Wasps, Bayonne and Rugby Mogliano
Predictions:
Pro 12: 10th
Anglo Welsh Cup: Semi-Final
Amlin Challenge Cup: 2nd in Pool
Prior to the Dragons, Newport RFC the club won the Welsh Championship in seasons: 1894–95; 1895–96; 1902–03; 1909–10; 1911–12; 1919–20; 1922–23; 1950–51; 1955–56; 1961–62; 1968–69.
Welsh Cup winners in 1977 and 2001. There have been 31 Newport players selected for the Lions with 10 for the 1910 tour to South Africa, the most from one club. 20 players have captained the Welsh national side and many greats have pulled on the club shirt. 1963 was a great year for the club as they beat New Zealand 3-0, having previously beaten Australia 11-0 in 1957. Newport still ply their trade in the Welsh Premier League which they won in 2004.
We would like to say a big thank you to Gethin for making us aware of the Newport Gwent Dragons 2012/13 shirts release and wish the region all the best for their campaign.
