The Aviva Premiership Rugby 2013/14 Season Round Four Saracens march on away at Harlequins, whilst Northampton and Leicester keep up the chase.
Week four opened on Friday night at Franklin’s Gardens where Northampton Saints had a comfortable win over Sale Sharks 33-14 in front of almost 13,000 fans. Saints dotted down five tries all by different players and Stephen Myler slotted four conversions. Three tries and two conversions in the first half took us to 19-7. With the other two coming in the second period. Sharks scored a try per half.
Three games on Saturday and first up we had Bath London Irish. Bath won this 33-18, though they were made to work for it hard to belief given they were 33-10 up at the break. So did Bath go to sleep in the second period or did London Irish really improve that much. Next to Adams Park and two team looking to kick start their seasons. On this showing it was London Wasps. They out muscled Warriors in the tight and out paced them out wide, to take the win 32-16 in front of a disappointing crowd of some 5,000. Half-time here was a tight 11-9. However two tries in as many minutes turned the game in favour of the home side. Last for Saturday and Harlequins taking on the unbeaten Saracens going down12-22. The Quins did lead this one 12-6 at the break, but all the signs of the forthcoming loss were there to see before the half-time whistle and in the second half Sarries scored one try and Owen Farrell kicked his penalties to bring up the twenty-two points.
Sunday and Leicester Tigers travelled down to Sandy Park to face Exeter Chiefs. This was a game of two halves as Tigers smashed a lack lustre Chiefs in the first period going in to the break at 0-15. The second half and although there was no way back Chiefs were now giving it their all and got three penalties for their efforts, whilst Tigers extended their lead by two penalties giving us the final score of 9-21. Last up and Newcastle Falcons welcomed Gloucester Rugby. Here the home side started with great power and conviction taking the lead 13-8 at the break. So it was that we could all see an upset coming but Freddie Burns had other ideas and kicked his penalties to take Gloucester clear and leave the Falcons stuck second from bottom with just the one win.
So two wrong calls with Harlequins and Newcastle Falcons going down. Here are all the results:
