The Aviva Premiership Rugby 2013/14 Season Round Five came and went in glorious autumn sunshine with a couple of surprise results. London Irish waking up and doing for Harlequins and Worcester Warriors going down at home to Newcastle Falcons.
Friday night and we had Sale Sharks hosting Bath at the Salford City Stadium and winning 19-13. With Bath having a good start to the season this was a bit of a surprise. But Danny Cipriani was on form and clocked up fourteen of his sides total of nineteen. The half-time score here was 16-10.
Saturday and five games. First and the big one as London Irish turned over Harlequins at the Madejski 18-13. It was six a piece at half-time and this loss continues Quins poor start to the season. next to Allianz Park and Saracens being pushed all the way by London Wasps. Half-time it was 3-0 to the hosts, but with a try a piece in the second half it was the kicking boot of Owen Farrell that mad the difference and took the game to Saracens 19-12. next and perhaps another surprising result as Worcester Warriors went down to Newcastle Falcons 11-16. The Warriors did fight back in the second half as they trailed 3-13 at the break, but it was bot enough to surpass Falcons.
Leicester Tigers versus Northampton Saints and another derby day match played out in front of some 24,000 fans. The last few encounters have been brutal but with some flair and we expected nothing else in this match. Needless to say they did not disappoint. 6-9 at the break had Saints with a narrow lead which Myler extended and for a while it looked like an away win, but with minutes left on the clock Ed Slater plunged over for Tigers and Toby Flood added the extras to force the Draw 19-19.
Sunday and just the one game as west country rivals Gloucester welcomed Exeter Chiefs to Kingsholm and let them leave with a 12-29 victory. With Gloucester having already gone behind 5-13 at the break it was no surprise to see the stands emptying before the final whistle. This result condemns Gloucester to third from bottom in the table and sees Chiefs on 12 points and in sixth.
So three wrong calls and a draw with Harlequins, Gloucester and Worcester Warriors going down. To add to these results Leicester Tigers drew. Here are all the results:
