The Aviva Premiership Rugby 2013/14 Season Round Seven was played in mixed conditions with mixed results.
Friday night and we had two games as first Bath won away at win less Worcester Warriors 6-21. The half-time score here was 3-16 and Bath were contained a bit more in the second period but still did enough to take the spoils. The other game saw Sale Sharks go down 16-18 to Exeter Chiefs and spoil their recent run of form. This one was 6-15 at the break and though the Sharks fought back in the second period they just fell short of the points needed, this coupled with three men in the sin bin ruined their chances.
The next two games were on Saturday as following on from the England game Gloucester went down at home to London Wasps 30-32. This was 10-17 at the break. Andy Goode’s boot was to be the difference in this as both sides scored four tries but Goode converted three to Freddie Burns two. The second game saw
Leicester Tigers go down to the Harlequins. 24,000 cheered on the home side but they went 6-10 down into the break and ultimately lost 16-23. The killer here was Nick Evans having a run out at 15 and scoring two conversions and three penalties whilst Ben Botica had a run at ten.
Finally for the weekend we had two games on Sunday with first up London Irish taking on top runners Northampton Saints and going down 14-19. Sainst looked to have this game well under control even with out the points on the board. However Irish never give up and so from 11-16 down closed it down to 14-16 before a final penalty gave Sainst the 14-19 scoreline. Irish bashed away in the closing minutes but a penalty in stoppage time quashed and chances of the try and drwa or win with a conversion. Last up for the weekend was Saracens Newcastle Falcons. In this one the Falcons led well into the first half before Saracens switched into gear and went in to the break at 10-3. Opening out to the final score of 40-3 in the second period and yet another try bonus point. This result put Saracens back on top with 28 points to Saints 26. Other key changes saw Harlequins and Wasps climb the table whilst Tigers, Sharks and Falcons all dropped places.
So three wrong calls amid much surprise as Leicester Tigers,Sales Sharks and Gloucester all lost. Here are all the results:
