Pumas Take Third Place

Who said the 3rd place play off would be boring? What a game, full of fire and passion from two sides who wanted the win. France did everything but score in the early stages and so Argentina made them pay.  Honiss and his touch judges had their work cut out keeping the lid on this pressure cooker game in the first half and with Argentina going in 17-3 up at half time it was a sad end to Raphael Ibanez career as he was binned for dangerous use of the boot whilst Argentina lock Rimas Alvarez went for persistent infringements at the breakdown. The second half continued in similar vein but a bit more controlled from the players but for all Les Bleus hard work it was the Pumas day and they stretched out to a comfortable win 34-10. Could it be they always knew they could not beat the Springboks and saved their best till last?  Whatever they fully deserve their third place finish.

I think the third place play-off just showed Argentina’s dominance in world Rugby. Many people believed that their win in the group stage was a one off, but they smashed France again in the play-off showing they are not a one-game team. Argentina needs at least club sides to be added into the Super 14 so their own players can play from home and the nation needs to be added to the Tri-Nations where they will be versing the best rugby nations constantly. The Tri-Nation countries are all rugby mad and this can be added to Argentina as long as the IRB does the “romantic” thing and adds Argentina to Tri-Nations. This will add strength to southern hemisphere rugby and to most importantly Argentine Rugby.
