Royal Air Force Jerseys

The RAF play their home game in strip of sky blue and white. The shirt has been doned by a great in the game in Wavell Wakefield, but has not been worn to any distinction in playing terms as the RAF are usually the whipping boys of the inter-services matches.

The Royal Air Force Rugby Union (RAF Rugby Union) was formed in 1920 and celebreted its 90th Anniversary on 15 January 2010. The Union was formed during a meeting at the Air Ministry on 15 Jan 1920 with Air Cdre Charles Lambe being elected Chairman, a post he was to hold until he retired as an air marshal in 1930. Flt Lt Wavell Wakefield, later to captain the RAF, Combined Services, Cambridge University and England for whom he won 31 caps, and who become Lord Wakefield of Kendal and President of the Rugby Football Union was appointed Secretary and Captain.

Also at the meeting were Group Capt F C Halahan, Wing Cdr C D Breese, Flight Lt G M Morris, Flight Lt H S Scroggs and Wing Cdr (later Air Cdre) Alfred Warrington Morris. The latter who played 3 times for England in 1909, became the sole selector and Honorary Treasurer and was to hold the financial appointment, on the Committee until his death 42 years later. As can be seen the RAF was well served by its committee all of whom gave a lot to the organisation.
