On Saturday 13 November Uruguay and Romania played out a 21-21 draw in the Charrúa Stadium in Montevideo.
The 10,000 crowd saw a tight nervous game in lovely spring weather in which the home team came from behind to snatch a deserved draw. They will all hope that Uruguay can find something extra in two week’s time when the teams meet again at the Stadionul National Arcul de Triumf in Bucharest.
Romania controlled the first half but found the conditions and their hosts tough to break down so went in just 14-5 up at half-time. The second period and although the Oaks could have won it on the last play a final score of 21-21 was a fair result.
Romania must however now be favourites for the last spot as they have home advantage for the second game.
