Romaina had a tough time in New Zealand and failed to win a single game in the pool stages much as we expected. Their best showing was a 34-24 loss to Scotland, whilst their loss to Georgia 25-9 was a big disappointment to them. These losses left Romania as the bottom team of Pool 'B' and they will have to follow the qualification route if they are to appear in England at the next cup in 2015.
Grouped with Argentina, England, Scotland and Georgia in Pool B, Romania have never progressed from the pool stage of a Rugby World Cup. In their past six world cups, they've managed 5 wins, only in 1995 did they fail to secure one and they haven't missed a world cup yet. In their European qualifying group, Romania finished third behind Russia, putting them into the play-off route to the Rugby World Cup 2011.
Romania have new shirts for the World Cup in 2011. The shirt keeps faith with their usual yellow, but adds blue and red to the right shoulder, whilst the 'T' shirt style neck is blue. The shirt is manufactured by KooGa and it can be seen and purchased through the Romania Shirts page.
In November 2001, Romania lost 134-0 to England in a game which marked the low point in their rugby history. Current coach, Romanian Romeo Gontineac who took over in 2010 has maintained the return of Romanian rugby to its strong point; driving forward play very apt when you see their nickname of "The Oaks". Whilst encouraging the backs to use their flair and talent to exploit the forwards dominance.
Currently ranked 19th in the IRB's world rankings, Romania are captained by Sorin Socol, we cannot however see any way they will be able to progress past the pool stages in fact their only chance of winning a game will be against Georgia, a big ask as they have lost there recent match-ups.
