The 2013 Rugby World Cup Sevens were held in Moscow Russia over the weekend with the Men and Women’s All Blacks winning.
The weekend opened with match’s on Friday and all went pretty much as expected. Day two and in the mens there were no real surprises, however in the women’s England losing to Russia put them up against the New Zealand All Blacks in the quarter finals and they got thrashed. The other surprise was Australia going out in the quarters to Spain. From then on it went pretty much to form Fiji winning the bowl and Australia the plate with the Kiwis beating Canada 29-12 in the final.
For the men South Africa had been looking like the team to beat over the pool rounds but they went down to Fiji in the quarters otherwise they went to form. In the semis Wales had a mountain to climb in meeting the All Blacks and went down 26-10, meanwhile England beat Australia and Kenya France. The semis and both England and the All Blacks won setting up a thrilling final which given the wet conditions should have favoured England. However it was not to be and the New Zealand All Blacks thrashed them 33-0. The third place medals went to Fiji who beat Kenya 29-5. The minor trophies Russia won the Bowl 29-5 against Japan and Canada won the Plate 19-12 against Samoa.
So the New Zealand All Blacks now hold all four of the World Cups.
