Samoa play their homes game in the national Stadium Apia, Samoa and wear strip of predominantly red jerseys, with royal blue shorts and white socks. The jersey has been worn in one world cup to date in 2000, reaching the quarterfinals and by names in the game such as: John Schuster, Va'aiga Tuigamala, Apollo Perelini and Fereti Tuilagi.
The Samoa rugby league team played their first international match against the Cook Islands in 1988 when they were called Western Samoa. The game was won by Samoa 52-16. Samoa who are administered by the Samoa Rugby League changed their name in 1997 and should not be confused with the side American Samoa, which is also under the same administration.
Samoa are ranked 12 in the RLIF rankings at present and qualified for the 2008 World Cup in Australia October 2008, beating Lebanon in the final place play-off. They will be in pool 3 with Tonga and Ireland.
