Scotland recorded a historic win against the visiting Wallabies at Murrayfield in a tight contest which saw the Scotland defence hold out against sustained Australian pressure. Australia dominated territory and possession but it was 3-3 at the break as Scotland fly-half Phil Godman cancelled out a Matt Giteau penalty.
The second period and a Godman penalty and Chris Paterson drop-goal saw Scotland edge ahead, 9-3. Then in the dying moments Ryan Cross went over for an injury-time try, but Giteau missed the conversion giving the Scots victory for the first time since 1982. Final score:
Scotland 9-8 Australia
