Tetley’s Challenge Cup Semi-Finals news round-up. Hull FC surprised the pundits this weekend with a home win over Warrington Wolves, whilst the other game ended much as expected except for the massive scoreline.
Saturday evening and London Broncos hosted Wigan Warriors and took a pasting. The London outfit did start brightly but could not breach the Warriors line and so it was that Goulding opened the scoring for Warriors and from there they kicked on to a lead of 34-0 at the break and a final score of 0-70. The scoreline was the biggest ever points difference and being scoreless Broncos matched Hull Kingston Rovers semi effort in 2006. All in all a very disappointing day for Broncos fans but elation for the Warriors. They will have a much tougher day at the office in the final against Hull FC.
Sunday and Hull FC took on Warrington Wolves and having weathered the storm came from 0-8 to win 16-12. It was 10-8 at the break but Hull scored first in the second period to make it 16-8. Wolves pressed and pressed at the black and whites line but could not penetrate until late on to make it 16-12. To be fair it would have been a travesty if Wolves had won as Hull had the best of play for three quarters of the match. Taking the scalp of the holders must have been very satisfying for all involved with Hull FC.
So one wrong and one right, here are the results:
