British & Irish Lions lock Simon Shaw was cited on Saturday for dangerous play during his side’s 28-9 victory over the Springboks in the third Test of the Castle South Africa 2009 Lions Series at Coca-Cola Park in Johannesburg.
Citing officer Steve Hinds of New Zealand cited Shaw for an offence of striking with the knee in the 37th minute of the first half. Referee Stuart Dickinson yellow-carded Shaw for the offence which was committed on Springbok scrumhalf Fourie du Preez. The incident looked more clumsy than malicious when it happend, but like Botha Shaw will probably get a short ban.
Shaw will appear before Judicial Officer Alan Hudson of Canada at the offices of the Golden Lions Rugby Union in Johannesburg on Sunday 5 July.
Linda Hughes says
I thought the Lions (playes and coaches) did a fantastic job. More consistent international refereeing might help final results, though.
With four referees available, you would have thought this could happen, including using the video ref more comprehensively?
