Junior Rugby League players from South East community clubs Medway Dragons and Brentwood Elvers will have the once in a lifetime chance to walk out onto the field with the Australia and New Zealand teams at the Twickenham Stoop this Saturday.The lucky youngsters who are involved in the Junior Rugby League scene in London have been picked as mascots for the Gillette Four Nations clash between Australia and World Champions New Zealand and are relishing the opportunity.
Martin Coyd from the Medway Dragons club said: (quote) Harlequins Coach Brian McDermott drew the names out of a hat and the 17 kids from our club can’t wait. They will be walking out with either the World Champions or the team that are generally regarded as the best team in the world. It is certainly a once in a lifetime opportunity to be able to say that they were there for this event. The club are taking 150 people to this game, Medway Dragons were only formed two years ago and now we have 500 people involved with the club. We have 140 players and 50 volunteers and are enjoying being part of what is a booming London junior league. (end quote)
