Research has shown that you can improve agility for changes in direction such as the swerve or sidestep for evasive actions whilst playing rugby. To this end special ladders, hurdles and cones can be set out for use with or without the addition of a rugby ball.

Ladders for rugby union

The ladders come with low or flat rungs spaced approximately 45cm apart and vary in length from 4 to 9 meters. The ladders can be folded to produce different angles for players to perform drills. Fast foot ladders as they are known are designed to improve agility and for developing fast feet.

Hurdles come in Low and high being usually around 18cm high for the low and 30cm for the high and made from hard plastic. They are most often used in sets of 6-8 and are designed to be freestanding. Depending on who is working with them they are normally spaced at 1/5 meter intervals. The low hurdles are ideal for working on quick knee-lift, pre-turn and running technique. The high hurdles for controlled jump actions.

Rugby Agility Poles

Agility Poles come in several guises either freestanding or with a spike for pushing into the soil. They are a further method of working on fast feet, changes of direction and all facets for fast explosive feet. The terms used for all the fast feet equipment is SPEED, AGILITY and QUICKNESS for Rugby.
