The team play their home games in strip of white shirts with a red end to the sleeves and flash down either side and emblem of a growling big cat. The shirt has not been worn to major honours but has seen 2 semi-finals in the Super 12's era.
The Lions are a South African Rugby Union team competing in the Super 15 competition. They are based in Johannesburg, and have always been centred around the Lions (Johannesburg) union, drawing players from that union since the inception of the competition as Super 12 in 1996. Currently, they also draw players from the Leopards (North West Province) and Pumas (Mpumalanga Province) unions.
The Lions play their home games in the 60,000 capacity Ellis Park, Corner of Currey and Staib Street, Doornfontein, Johannesburg, 2028. The stadium is also one of the homes to the Springboks the South Africa national side.
