The British & Irish Lions opened the Australia tour with a big win in Perth against Western Force 17-69. The Force with one eye on their Super fixture at the weekend did not field a first fifteen and at times it showed. The Lions however were also sloppy particularly in defence and leaked two tries both from a series of pick and drives. The good news was that when things clicked the Lions produced some top draw scores in their nine try total.
The game opened with the visitors on the score sheet in twelve minutes and saw them in control of most phases for all bar about fifteen minutes of the first half when they forgot the script and got very loose. They still managed to turn round at the break up 3-27.
The second half and Warren Gatland must have been pleased as his team tightened up and apart from the defence lapses played some good rugby. With the subs who came on adding to the bite. All this is good news for the management as it gives them plenty of choices for the Test selection. So all in all a good day at the office but with room for improvement!
