Shields & Pads
The Ruck Pad or Shield has been developed over a period of time and is available in a variety of types and sizes but will usually be made of water and mud repellent fabrics, fire safety foams and heavy thread stitching. Handles will be sown on to both sides at the back to ensure that pads can be held safely. There are 2 common shapes one with a wider top and level bottom and one which has a wider top and bottom. full-size are about 3/4 feet high and about 6/8 inches deep at the thinnest point..
Tackle Bags for Rugby
Tackle bags like the shields vary in size dependant on the age group using them. The style of bag is usually the same water and mud repellent fabrics, fire safety foams and heavy thread stitching formed in to a cylindrical shape with a single strap across the top and bottom. They come in 3 sizes for example Senior 138cm x 45cm 23kg, Intermediate 138cm x 38cm 14kg and Junior 122cm x 38cm 10kg.
Union Training Aids
The equipment now recommended for training are ladders sort or long, high and low hurdles, agility poles and power belts with elasticised cord attached. Other items are the dumbbell hand weights, power bags and weighted balls. Plus water bottle carriers and water bottles, marking cones and carriers and tag belts.
The last items in this section are the pitch items such as post pads and poles with flags for marking the dead ball, try line, 22 and half way lines.
