While most of the other New Zealand franchises opted for designs which feature iconic images representing their region, the Hurricanes have gone for a conservative approach with their home shirts for 2013, sticking to the bold yellow with black highlights which has become synonymous with the Wellington-based side.
The shirt does page homage to the provincial unions which contribute to the franchise, with Taranaki, Manawatu, Hawke’s Bay, East Coast, Poverty Bay, Wanganui, Wairarapa Bush, Wellington and Horowhenua-Kapiti being named on the collar.
Mark Hammett named eight new players in his squad for 2013 as they look to build on an encouraging season this year, where the side recaptured their team spirit following the departure of several senior players, including All Blacks Ma’a Nonu, Peri Weepu and Andrew Hore.
The forward pack will be bolstered by the signing of All Black prop Ben Franks, while a host of exciting young players, including Matt Proctor, Eric Sione and the impressive Ardie Savea complete a mouth-watering player roster, which Hammett could well turn in to a highly successful side.
