The current Rugby World Cup champions the All Blacks have officially launched their new home jersey for the Rugby World Cup.
The new home jersey for the All Blacks pays homage to the most iconic All Blacks team, the Originals who toured the United Kingdom, France and the USA in 1905-1906. The new jersey incorporates a patterned design across the shoulders and chest which is inspired by the famous leather yoke which was originally seen on the Originals kit. Again the Rugby World Cup emblem is embossed on the right sleeve but this time it features two years: 1987 and 2011.
“To wear a jersey with a design that represents the nation’s proud rugby heritage and reflects the team’s success since 1905 is hugely significant to us.” All Black captain, Richie McCaw.
The adidas logo on the front of the jersey has moved to the centre allowing the 2015 Rugby World Cup logo to be placed on the right side while the All Blacks Fern crest remains on the left side. All the logos. branding names and numbers will be coloured in gun silver.
Senior Director at adidas Rugby, Simon Cartwright said, “We wanted to pay respect in some small way to The Originals in the design of the new jersey and acknowledge the century-long success of the team, and we think we have done that with the subtle design around the chest.”
McCaw added, “To wear a jersey with a design that represents the nation’s proud rugby heritage and reflects the team’s success since that iconic team of 1905-1906 is hugely significant to us. We’re ready to wear the Rugby World Cup jersey with pride.”
Three versions will be available, a performance version, replica version and fan’s cotton version.
