Sale Rugby Club was founded in 1861, making it one of the oldest clubs in the world. However, Sale Sharks is another side, which was created through the advent of professional rugby. The Sharks play their home games at; Edgeley Park, Hardcastle Road, Stockport, SK3 9DD.

Sale have been a major outpost of Rugby Union since their founding and are following a proud history in supplying International players and winning competitions. Their original heyday was the 1930's but the modern game with power forwards and fleet footed backs suits their style. They won the Premier League title in 2005/6 finishing first at the end of the season as well as winning the final. Their other titles are in the less prestigious Parker Pen Shield which they won in 2001/2 and 2004/5.
