Scotland have withdrawn from the race to co-host the 2015 Rugby World Cup. This decision now means there will be no joint bid from the home nations.
The Scots wanted to host a pool and at least one quarter-final but could not secure an agreement with the English, Irish and Welsh unions. In February, RFU chairman Martyn Thomas said that England would make a solo bid, with some games going elsewhere.
Ireland and Wales would need partner nations to stage the event as they do not have the infrastructure and facilities to go it alone. This leaves Japan, Italy and South Africa vying with England for the next Cup after the event in New Zealand 2011.
